Know Your Numbers

You are the captain of your ship, responsible for your heart health! Know your measurements for these important values:

Cholesterol - Know your Total Choleserol, HDL (the good!) and LDL (the bad!) cholesterol levels:

Total cholesterol - Optimal - less than 200 mg/dL

LDL - "bad cholesterol" - too much LDL in the blood can lead to cholesterol build-up and blockage in the arteries. Generally, the lower your LDL level the better.
Optimal LDL:  Less than 160 mg/dL for people at low risk for heart disease.  Less than 130 mg/dL for people at intermediate risk for heart disease.   Less than 100 mg/dL for people at high risk for heart disease

HDL - "good cholesterol"- it helps remove cholesterol from the blood. The higher your HDL level the better!
Optimal HDL cholesterol - 50 mg/dL or higher

Blood Pressure:

Optimal - Less than 120 / 80 mm Hg
Pre-Hypertension - Between 120 / 80 mm Hg and 139 / 89 mm Hg
Hypertension - 140 / 90 mm Hg and above

Body Mass Index:

Underweight - below 18.5
Normal - 18.5 - 24.9
Overweight - 25 - 29.9
Obese - 30 and above

Calculate your BMI

Glucose - It is suggested that women should have a fasting blood glucose test every three years.

Normal - 99 mg/dL or below
Pre-Diabetes - 100-125 mg/dL
Diabetes - 126 mg/dL and above
