Osteoporosis & Bone Health

 Strong Bones

Health Tip: Vitamins and supplements are key components in maintaining strong bones & preventing osteoporosis and fractures. Calcium helps form new bone while Vitamin D enhances calcium absorption. Get 1,200 mg of calcium daily but only 500 mg at a time.  And consider a combination calcium & magnesium supplement in a 2:1 ratio.

Osteoporosis. It's the disease that causes bones to become thinner and more likely to break.  Women's bones are strongest at about age 35 but can become weaker with age. Menopausal women can lose bone density at a faster rate and osteoporosis can result. So exercise, eat calcium-rich foods and, if your doctor prescribes one, take a prescription medication.

Fractures. Osteoporosis can leave all bones, especially the spine, at risk for fracture. Spinal fractures cause pain and can result in a curved spine or Kyphosis, commonly known as 'dowager's back.'
