Many health conditions are more prevalent or more serious in minority women. In 2001, Speaking of Women's Health developed Universal Sisters, a minority health program designed to address the unique health concerns of women of color. The goal is to celebrate women of color and to educate them about the significance of preventive health care. |
Universal Sisters conferences and programs are celebratory, high-energy events that are typically held in churches or community centers. The day features keynote presentations by national and local experts, live cooking and exercise demonstrations, health screenings, breakout sessions on heart disease, diabetes, nutrition, and stress management to name a few, a fabulous luncheon - and every woman receives a luxurious gift bag.
Universal Sisters is honored to have the support of three celebrities, Valerie Simpson of Ashford & Simpson, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, and our queen of gospel, Dottie Peoples, as Spokeswomen for Universal Sisters.
"Women of color are hungry for the education to take better care of themselves and their families," says
Universal Sisters is made possible through the generous support of the Federated Department Stores Foundation, Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc., many local sponsors and Speaking of Women's Health National Sponsors.
